January
First Grade is learning fast!
In Open Court Reading we are now learning all of the long vowel sound spellings. As we learn each new spelling, we will be practicing by reading our decodable books. Our Fifth big book theme "Weather" will contain many interesting poems and stories, biography and art, all helping us to use our new skills as we explore literature.
In Math we are expanding our counting skills as well as learning our next sets of addition facts. Our lessons will also include skip counting, even and odd numbers, patterning, geometry, measurement, calendar, and mathematical reasoning.
In Social Studies we are learning about the important decisions that go into building communities.
In Science we are learning about the life cycles of plants and animals .
We will enjoy going to Music, Art, Spanish, Computer and P.E. for more learning fun!
We are so excited to be in First grade!
